VO₂max Test and Blood Lactate Analysis

Know your fitness profile with precision - use accurate data to level up your training and reach your goals

We test athletes who compete in any sport, at any level

We combine laboratory-grade technology and extensive clinical and sport science experience to provide you with accessible and highly accurate health and fitness tests.

An analysis of your fitness strengths and weaknesses will help to accurately define your training plans and ensure you reach your goals.

With a combination of both VO₂max and Blood Lactate tests, we can provide a highly detailed report which relates all of your training zones and thresholds to your maximal outputs.

From this, we can report on how efficient you are using energy when working at varying intensities and how to apply this to your training.

You can also incorporate these tests with a three month 1-2-1 coaching package for running, cycling or triathlon coaching from our specialist endurance coach, elite-level triathlete and Sport Scientist, Charlie.

We use VO₂max as the measurement of your aerobic fitness abilities, and so a high VO₂max indicates healthy internal body systems.

We use a laboratory-grade, wireless metabolic analyser to measure your oxygen consumption (VO₂).

We take a (pin-prick) fingertip blood sample to analyse the lactate levels in your blood at different stages of the test.

The data from the blood lactate test can help you ‘dial in’ your training intensities to ensure that you are making the best adaptations in your fitness.

You will also receive a VO₂max test report with your maximal measurements and estimated training zones to apply to your training.

VO₂ Max Testing

Why book this test?

This test will tell you about your aerobic capacity, which is a strong indicator of cardio-respiratory health and risk of cardio-vascular disease.

We can also estimate your training zones from the manner in which you reach your maximal effort.

What to expect

You can perform your test by cycling on our Wattbike Atom or running on our treadmill.

The test starts easy, and gradually gets harder as the test continues, until you reach your maximal effort. It normally takes 12-18 minutes to reach your maximal effort.

Blood Lactate Analysis

Why book this test?

This test will tell you your lactate thresholds.

‘Thresholds’ relate to the distinct changes in how your body produces its energy as exercise intensity increases.

What to expect

You can perform your test by cycling on our Wattbike Atom or running on our treadmill, starting off easy and gradually getting harder as it continues.

The test ends when we have recorded distinct changes in your blood lactate, however, you do not need to reach maximal effort in this test.

Combined VO2max and Blood Lactate Analyses

Why book this test?

This combines the two analyses to give you a complete, detailed aerobic fitness profile – accurately measuring your aerobic capacity, training zones, thresholds, and physiological strengths and weaknesses.

What to expect

This is a combination of the VO₂max and Blood Lactate tests, as listed above.

It normally takes 20-25 minutes to reach your maximal effort for this test.
