M20 Health & Performance offers the latest technology for Focused Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (F-ESWT) using the PiezoWave2 system
F-ESWT allows precision of injury treatment and stimulation of tissue repair mechanisms at the cellular level by:
- Pinpointing painful tissue
- Stimulating new blood vessel growth
- Promoting tissue healing and regeneration
- Targeting chronic, stubborn injuries
Shockwaves are a form of energy, up to 1000x stronger than ultrasound waves. This energy is what causes cellular changes in the body, called ‘mechanotransduction’. The cellular changes drive the healing of injured tissues, or the lowering of tissue sensitivity, altering the signaling of pain.
There are two types of shockwave therapy: Focused and Radial. Focused Shockwave, or F-ESWT, provides a more precise delivery of the energy to the depth required within affected tissues, whereas Radial Shockwave delivers its high energy at the skin surface with a dissipating ripple effect into the tissues.
Research has shown that F-ESWT has more effective outcomes than Radial Shockwave.

What conditions is F-ESWT good for?
- Tendon injuries, e.g. tendinopathy and tendinitis (including Achilles, golfers and tennis elbow, rotator cuff, patella tendon, etc.)
- Muscle tears
- Ligament tears and joint restrictions
- Bone stress injuries
- Myofascial injuries, e.g. plantar fasciitis
Some improvements may be noticeable immediately post-treatment.
For chronic conditions, several sessions may be needed to change the state of tissues or alter pain signaling.
Will I feel any discomfort?
It is normal and expected to feel some discomfort during the treatment but this indicates that it is correctly targeting the affecting tissue(s).
How many treatments do I need?
Immediately after the treatment and at follow-up, we gauge the response to the initial treatment before deciding upon your future F-ESWT treatment plan.
Typically, we recommend clients require 3-5x F-ESWT treatment sessions (between 15-30 mins duration) over 14-21 days.
Services
Initial Consultation and F-ESWT Therapy
You are in pain or discomfort and it’s affecting your daily activities or chosen sport.
You haven’t had F-ESWT before but you’ve researched it or it has been recommended to you. You would also benefit from an expert assessment of your injury and advice on other ways to best manage it.
We use this initial consultation session to assess your injury, indication for F-ESWT, and wider potential rehab needs. The session will include a short F-ESWT treatment, if this is indicated.
